ICC chairman and chief executive due in Pakistan next week

Barclay will be the first ICC Chairman to tour Pakistan since ICC President Ray Mali’s visit in 2008

ICC Chairman Greg Barclay and Chief Executive Geoff Allardice would arrive in Lahore on Tuesday on a two-day visit, the national cricket board said on Sunday.

“They will meet Chair of the PCB Management Committee Najam Sethi (also an ICC Director), PCB Chief Operating Officer Barrister Salman Naseer and other board officials,” the PCB said in a statement.

While Allardice has regularly visited Pakistan, this will be Barclay’s first visit to Pakistan.

Barclay will be the first ICC Chairman to tour Pakistan since ICC President Ray Mali’s visit in 2008, said the board, adding: “This will also be the first time since October 2004 when both the top two ICC officials will together visit the Pakistan cricket headquarters.”

The visit comes amid the standoff between Pakistan and India over playing in each other countries for the mega events of Asia Cup and World Cup.

“The venues for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 will be decided at a press conference during the ICC World Test Championship Final,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah said in a statement on Saturday after a meeting on the eve of the Indian Premier League final in Ahmedabad.

“The complete schedule for the tournament will also be revealed,” he said adding that they were looking at all the major cities as venues for the tournament, including Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai and Kolkata.

Cricketing giants and arch-rivals India and Pakistan have not met on home soil in any version of the game since 2012, and only play each other in multinational tournaments on neutral grounds.
