Fake AI image wreaks havoc in US stock market
A fake image of an explosion, generated by Artificial Intelligence, near the Pentagon wreaked havoc in the US stock market on Tuesday.
The stocks briefly dipped by 0.26% but quickly recovered after it was revealed as fake.
The image first appeared on “Bloomberg Feed”, which is now suspended, which reported a “large explosion” near the Pentagon, the headquarters of the United States Department of Defense.
The fake report spread like wildfire and was covered by a number of known media outlets including Russia Today and India’s Republic.
Both have since deleted their respective tweets regarding the story.
Both, local authorities and Pentagon Force Protection Agency have confirmed there was “no explosion or incident”.
Multiple Twitter users pointed to inconsistencies in the image that indicated it was AI-made, highlighting the building frontage wasn’t uniform.
