Imran arrested in balanced and fair manner: Rana Sanaullah
Rana Sanaullah confirmed Imran Khan was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau on Tuesday in the Al Qadir trust case.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad on Tuesday, Rana said Imran has dozens of cases on him, but he was arrested in a case that had caused an immense loss to Pakistan’s treasurey.
“The arrest was resisted by lawyers, which is disappointing,” he said. He added that reports of any violence during the arrest were false.
“The forces acted in a balanced and fair manner,” he added. He also added that the arrest had been made by the National Accountability Bureau which was an independent institution.
“I have never met NAB officials or know details of the case,” he said. However, he said that he had looked up the facts of the case only to brief the media after the arrest.
“There is no political revenge involved, all the facts of the case have been documented.”
“The case involves money laundering of £190 million by a property tycoon,” Rana Sanaullah. He said that the money was supposed to be brought back to Pakistan but was instead diverted towards the trust, a scam worth Rs60 billion.
He added that Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, were the only trustees of the Al-Qadir trust.
“While Imran Khan was misappropriating funds, he was implicating political opponents in false cases,” he said.
He also added that the beneficiary of the crime was the property tycoon, but Imran Khan was the real culprit. He also added that former accountability aide Shehzad Akbar had taken a Rs2 billion cut and was equally culpable in the case.
He said that Imran Khan was ‘conspiring’ with anti-Pakistan forces to defame institutions, and that his recent anti-army statements were issued at the behest of ‘someone’ and were not his own words.
