All-format captain Babar Azam believes that poor fielding costs Pakistan the five-match series against New Zealand.

The series, which started in Lahore, concluded in Rawalpindi on Monday with both teams sharing the trophy after two victories each. The fourth T20I between both sides was washed out.

Speaking at the post-match conference, Babar said that the dropped catch obviously cost them the game.

In the 14th over of the innings, Chapman tried to go downtown against Shaheen, but it went straight to Shadab Khan, who dropped it. He was batting at 67 at that stage and went on to score an unbeaten 104 to help the visitors level the series.

Despite that costly drop, Babar went on to defend Shadab by saying that he has given a lot of performances in the past.

“Shadab has given a lot of performances in the past and If his performance isn’t good in one series, that doesn’t make any difference to us,” he said. “We will back him and he will perform again.”

Both teams will now lock horns in the five-match ODI series, which will be played in Rawalpindi and Karachi.
