Not many of us have thought that Babar Azam would fit in the captaincy role of the Pakistan cricket team. He has not only proved everyone wrong but also is on the verge of achieving something big when it comes to T20I cricket.

The prolific runs-getter has been dominating the shortest format of the game with the bat for a while now. He has already become the leading run-scorer in the format for Pakistan.

Moreover, his run as a captain is also making headlines. First, he led the side to the Asia Cup final and repeated the same feat in the T20 World Cup 2022. On both occasions, Pakistan fell short of Sri Lanka and England respectively.

Don’t forget the T20 World Cup semi-final in 2021, when Pakistan were eliminated by Australia. In the same tournament, he managed to achieve what no other Pakistan captain managed to do so, which is beating India.

That’s right, Pakistan’s 10-wicket triumph over the arch-rivals. This was the country’s only victory in the history of the ICC tournaments.

Now, after equalling Eion Morgan and Asghar Afghan’s record of most victories in T20I history on Saturday, Babar Azam could become the most successful captain in the format’s history if the Men in Green manage to beat New Zealand in the third T20I.

Currently, the trio manages to win 42 matches each.

Pakistan and New Zealand will play the third game of the five-match series at the Gaddafi Stadium – the home ground of Babar.

Babar won’t get a better opportunity to claim the record. Pakistan are leading the series 2-0 at the moment.
