It looks like the stars of Shadab Khan are not perfectly aligned as he is on the verge of losing the vice-captaincy of Pakistan team.

The all-rounder was appointed vice-captain in 2020 and recently he led the young Pakistan side against Afghanistan in Sharjah. His first experience as a captain didn’t go well as the Men in Green slumped to a 2-1 defeat.

The management didn’t accept the defeat well as it is now likely to remove him from the role ahead of the white-ball series against New Zealand.

Earlier, the management had intervened in the matter and without consulting all-format captain Babar Azam, appointed Shan Masood as vice-captain for New Zealand’s historic tour. Shadab didn’t feature in the series due to a finger injury.

With Shadab back into the side, he is expected to take the role once senior players including captain Babar Azam return for New Zealand ODIs and T20Is.

However, things are not simple as they look, as, according to Geo News, the team management is considering replacing Shadab with an in-form leg-spinner Usama Mir.

This will once again leave the role vacant with three candidates favourite to fill in Shadab’s shoes as vice-captain.

Imad Wasim, who made his comeback against Afghanistan, Shan Masood, and Shaheen Shah Afridi are considered for the role.

Pakistan and New Zealand will play five ODIs and the same number of T20Is in April-May.
