In the next extension of Elon Musk’s plan to make users pay for additional features on Twitter, the social media company announced on Friday that it will start ‘winding down’ the legacy verified program.

The announcement said that the legacy verification marks will start disappearing from April 1.

This means that the only way to keep the coveted ‘blue tick’ for Rs 2,250now is to subscribe to the Twitter Blue service, which is now available in all parts of the world.

As an incentive, Twitter Blue users will get additional features such as editing tweets, uploading longer and 1080p videos. They will aslo see half the ads and get more reach and their replies will be given priority viewing.

In Pakistan, Twitter Blue subscription is available on an annual package for Rs23,700 and a monthly package for Rs2,250 that will come up to Rs27,000 for the year.

The blue tick has been a continuous area of change ever since Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter last year. While the Twitter Blue service was originally aimed to make verification and advanced features open to everyone, it will now be the ony way to get it.

The legacy verification marks were issued after strick security checks and helped differentiate real accounts from fake ones on a platform that often gets criticised for its potential for misinformation.
