The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted light to moderate rainfall in parts of Sindh from March 16 to 20.

Rain clouds will enter Karachi on March 16. Light rain with thunder and lightning is expected.

According to the Meteorological department, a western wind is likely to enter Pakistan from Balochistan and the upper parts of the country on March 14 and will prevail till March 20.

Under the influence of this weather system, wind storms along with thunderstorms and rain are expected in Matiari, Jamshoro, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Jacobabad, Larkana, Shaheed Benazirabad, Mirpurkhas, Dadu, Thatta, Badin and Karachi from March 17 to 20, the Met Office said.

Rainfall is also expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Haripur, Karak, Peshawar, Kohat, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Bajaur, Kurram, Waziristan, Bannu, and Dera Ismail Khan.

The weather is likely to remain pleasant throughout the country at the beginning of Ramadan. The temperature will rise in the second and third ashra of Ramadan, the Department of Meteorology said.

An earlier forecast

The system of winds was forecast to enter Pakistan on March 12 and will primarily bring heavy rainfall in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

However, the systems will have a different effect on Sindh, particularly Karachi, according to independent weather analyst Jawad Memon.

Under the influence of these systems, Memon says, temperatures in Sindh will continuously rise from March 12 to March 17. Then, the beginning of April will bring two more wind systems with it, leading to heavy rain across Pakistan.

Karachi is expected to receive heavy rainfall from March 18. Memon has described the rain expectation as ‘above normal’.

In the rest of the country, the back-to-back wind systems will bring a danger for wheat crops which are set to be harvested in the months of March and April. If the rains turn to hailstorms, harvests could seriously be affected.
