The Election Commission of Pakistan has postponed elections in 37 constituencies of the National Assembly on Sunday.

A statement from the ECP said that the elections were put off in light of court judgements.

The elections were supposed to be conducted on seats vacated by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s resignations.

The 37 constituencies where elections have were postponed include 24 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, nine from Sindh, three from Islamabad and one from Balochistan.

The polling date for these seats had been set for March 16 and 19.

The Lahore High Court has already suspended elections on Punjab’s seats as it put aside the acceptance of PTi’s resignations.

The speaker’s office meanwhile, has said that its decisions remain unaffected. The PTI has been trying to re-secure its strength in the assembly to win back the opposition leader’s seat which would have implications for a caretaker set up.
