FIA arrests Shoaib Sheikh from Islamabad

The Federal Investigation arrested Shoaib Sheikh from Islamabad Airport on Thursday.

Sheikh, the chief executive of Axact, was accused of running a company that issued fake degrees and money laundering.

An Islamabad court had handed him a 20-year prison sentence in 2018. However, sheikh was later released on bail and filed an appeal against his conviction.

A statement by the FIA said that Sheikhhad been arrested by the anti-corruption circle. The staement also said that Sheikh had bribed a former sessions judge with Rs5 million to be exonerated from the case. The judge has already been fired from his position.

The case against the bribe was filed in the FIA’s anit-corruption circle but Sheikh had refused to come in to submit a statement.
