PTI Chairman Imran Khan said on Wednesday that there is an atmosphere in the country that elections might still not be held after the Supreme Court order for polls in 90 days.

In a televised address, Imran said that his party would stand behind the SC against any ‘unconstitutional’ measures by the government to delay elections.

He also announced that PTI would kick off its election campaign from Saturday and that the ‘jail bharo tehreek’ would now end.

He added that this is not the year 1998 when Nawaz Sharif ‘attacked’ the the top court. He also said that the rise of social media meant that citizens were well informed and could even fact-check politicians.

He also said that he is afraid he might be attacked again because the government is ‘even more’ afraid on him. He reiterated that PM Shehbaz Sharif, Interior Minsiter Rana Sanaullah and former President Zardari were behind the attack on his life.

He also added that his life had been put in danger by being asked to attnd court hearings while no security was provided.

“Will I be defended by the same people who I’m in danger from?” he said.

He also raised questions over why he was being asked to appear in-person in courts, while Naveed, the man who allegedly shot him, was participating in court hearings via video link.

He also condemned the arrest of Lt General (r) Amjad Shoaib, saying that he had never met him in person, but had seen him on TV. He added that the arrest was an attempt to stifle people’s voices.
