Najam Sethi, franchises to decide fate of PSL8
A high-level meeting between Pakistan Super League franchises and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials will take place on Friday to decide the fate of the PSL season eight.
The officials are considering moving the remainder of the tournament to Karachi, after a dispute between the board and the interim Punjab government.
The meeting will be chaired by PCB Chairman Najam Sethi, to discuss the possibilities of moving the tournament to the metropolise.
It is understood that the Punjab government has demanded PKR 450 million (US $1,723,000 approx.) in security costs to host the tournament in Lahore and Rawalpindi. This amount also includes the expenses of hosting the tournament in Multan.
However, PCB and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led Punjab administration had an agreement to pay only PKR 50 million (US $192,000 approx.), which was paid by the board.
Sethi, during his visit to Karachi, claimed that the Sindh government didn’t charge a single penny for security. The board only required remuneration for catering to the security personnel, that cost is understood to be in the region of PKR 30 million (US $115,000 approx.).
The board is currently looking to lock a similar kind of deal with the interim setup, according to ESPNCricinfo. However, the PCB is reluctant to bear the cost of security, which they consider to be the responsibility of the local government.
While speaking to the same publication, the senior board member believes if PCB were required to pay the security bill, it is understood that franchise owners would take the burden as well. “Moving the whole tournament to Karachi would, in that event, save both stakeholders money.”
Meanwhile, a franchise owner is in disagreement about organising the tournament at a single venue. He thinks it is not good for the tournament.
Moreover, CCPO Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana has vowed to provide fool-proof security to all domestic and foreign players, officials, and cricket fans for the tournament.
Speaking to reporters in Lahore, he said that a better security plan is in place for the upcoming PSL8 matches in the province.
He revealed, that over 8,000 police officers and personnel will be deployed on match security, and traffic duty.
