Police in Karachi’s Korangi area gunned down at least three street robbers in an ‘encounter’ Monday evening, officials said.

The robbers were fleeing after snatching mobile phones from people when police officials were alerted. They chased robbers who were killed in an exchange of fire at Korangi No 2 1/2, said police officials.

Weapons, cash and at least nine mobile phones were found on the robber, according to police.

Karachi has seen a spike in street crime since early 2022.

In several incidents, robbers killed people for resisting mugging.

Last week, a man was killed in front of his wife and children in North Karachi.
