LHC asks why date of election not issued yet
The Lahore High Court told the Election Commission to submit a reply in a contempt of court petition regarding elections to the Punjab Assembly.
The court had ruled on Friday that the ECP should immediately announce a date for the polls. However, a contempt petition was soon filed in court over the no date being issued despite multiple days having passed.
As part of its reply, the ECP told the court that a meeting with the governor had taken place but the date had still not been decided. They also said that the meeting had decided that there was more clarity needed to understand the court decision.
Justice Jawad Hassan, who made the judgement on Friday, told the government’s lawyer that a mockery should not be made out of the decision.
When told that the ECP had called another meeting to discuss the affair, the court’s procceedings were adjourned till the meeting’s outcome.
