Man investigated for circulating obscene text on photos of teen sister-in-law
A man facing an investigation for circulating private photos of his minor sister-in-law on Facebook and WhatsApp has been ordered by a court to explain himself to the FIA.
The Sindh High Court heard the petition of the man on Monday. We will withhold his name and refer to him as FM until he is proven guilty. The SHC called him in for questioning after it was alleged that FM had circulated on WhatsApp groups photos with inappropriate text of his 13-year-old sister-in-law.
The court ordered FM to surrender before the FIA and record a statement with the investigating officer.
When the court was in session, Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto asked the FIA investigating officer what crime FM had committed.
The investigating officer replied that he is accused of sharing her photos with inappropriate words on WhatsApp groups and on his Facebook profile.
The investigating officer told the court that he had verified FM’s ID from Facebook.
FM was not in the court at this point and so Justice Naimatullah instructed his lawyer to tell him to appear before the FIA and record a statement.
The judge told the FIA officials not to harass FM and submit a report on March 16.
According to the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016, whoever intentionally and publicly transmits any information which superimposes a photograph of the face of a person over any sexually explicit image or video, shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to seven years and with a fine which may extend RS.5 million.
