Jemima reveals reason behind showing ‘joyful Pakistan’ in her film
British screenwriter and film producer Jemima Goldsmith has revealed the reason behind showing a lighter side of Pakistan, escaping from grim politics in her upcoming film set for global release on January 27.
“It’s a rom-com Pakistan as a side from the darkness of politics. Because we often don’t get to see a kind of colorful and joyous Pakistan,” she said in an interview with Project TV.
The movie “What’s love got to do with it?” – a rom-com – is also starring Pakistani actress Sajal Aly and Indian actor Shabana Azmi.
Jemima, the former wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan, added that the country was “a kind of darker place” on US, UK, and Australian TV screens. “So it’s nice to show a bit about Pakistan that I grew to love.”
The film, which is directed by Shekhar Kapur, stars Lily James, Shazad Latif, Shabana Azmi, Sajal Aly and Emma Thompson.
The film also stars Asim Chaudhry, Jeff Mirza, Mim Shaikh and more. It would be released on January 27, 2023.
Jemima has been a fan of comedy movies. She was of the view that director Shekhar added something broader to the mainstream romcom.
