Politics today: Imran’s says ‘wait and see’, court clears long march, and PPP bigwigs meet

All you need to know about the day's political developments in one story

With news flowing in from all sides, here is all you need to know about today’s major political developments and expected events.

Imran playing waiting game on COAS appointment

Imran Khan told journalists in Zaman Park that he is pursuing a ‘wait and see’ policy’ on the army chief’s appointment. The statement comes amid allegations from PDM that PTI’s long march is aimed at getting a favourable army chief appointed. Khan seems to be eager to clarify that he has no horse in the game.

He also added that the ruling alliance is ‘worried’ about the appointment and there is clear disagreement among stakeholders on the issue.

Court says march should be handled politically

Hearing a petition against PTI’s long march, the Supreme Court said that the petitioner should take up the matter with the government instead of the court.

The chief justice said that interfering in a political matter would create a ‘strange situation’ for the court.

The petition was had been filed by Kamran Murtaza to ask the court to bind the PTI long march to a code of conduct. In reply, the chief justice observed that the petitioner wanted the court to play the role of a deputy commissioner.

Long march update

Meanwhile, PTI’s ‘Haqeeqi Azadi March’ will be on the road for the eighth day. It is moving in three segments.

One part, being led by Asad Umar, will reach Khushab today. The main procession originally being led by Imran Khan and now under Shah Mahmood Qureshi will reach Dina. A third segment from KP will reach Chakdara today. Imran Khan will address it at 4:30pm via video link.

PPP calls meeting

With political activity escalating and the date of the army chief’s appointment drawing closer, the PPP has called a meeting in Islamabad, Asif Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will be present. Apart from political developments, the PPP will discuss Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar’s replacement in the Senate.
