Long march day 12, PM down with Covid, and Bilawal’s two speeches
In case you don’t want to sift through multiple stories and still want the day’s main political updates. Here is what all the main political actors were up to today.
PM Shehbaz Sharif tests positive for corona
After a longer-than-expected stay in London, PM Shehbaz Sharif finally reached Pakistan on Monday. However, reports emerged that he was ‘taking it slow’ because he wasnt feeling very well.
On Tuesday morning, Information Minister Maryam Aurangzeb confirmed that the PM has tested positive for Covid-19 and is isloating.
PTI’s Mussarrat Cheema on the other hand said that the Sharif family’s covid seems to have become political. She alleged that Shehbaz was quarantining to ‘delay an important decision’. She was seemingly referring to the decision of appointing the next army chief, which was reportedly also the subject of the London meets.
PTI’s long march continues
Meanwhile, PTI’s long march is on the road for the twelfth straight day, and has now entered its fifth day after resumption. It is now travelling in 3 different segements.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi is leading the original march, now in Sara-i-Alamgir. Asad umar is leading a second portion which has now reached Chiniot. Today KP CM Mehmood Khan has set off with another processioin from Upper Dir which hopes to reach Rawalpindi in four days.
PM Imran Khan is still recovering in Zaman Park, twelve days after being shot multiple times in the leg. His sons have departed the country and he is set to address the long march via video link.
Bilawal’s two speeches
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari made two different speeches today, with slightly different but connected themes.
Speaking at the International Defence Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS) in the morning he called upon the institutions to stay within their consitutional role.
However, Bilawal spoke more directly at the innuguration of a cancer center at DOW Hospital in the afternoon in the afternoon. ‘Imran Khan’s politics revolves around a single appointment,’ the foreign minister said. He seemed to be echoing allegations made by the PDM earlier, that said the aim of Khan’s ‘Haqeeqi Azadi March’ is just to get a favorable army chief appointed.
