HYDERABAD: Police remain clueless about the whereabouts of a 15-year-old Hindu girl who was abducted from Hyderabad nearly a month ago.

The girl has been missing for 26 days now, says the girl’s mother while holding back tears.

According to the first information report, the girl was bundled into a white-coloured vehicle while she was returning from the factory where she worked. The incident took place in the limits of the Site police station.

“A boy named Shaman Magsi has abducted my daughter with the help of his accomplices,” says the girl’s mother.

The mother said that she has approached multiple police departments, including high-ranking officials with her complaint but no one has paid any heed to her.

“We are poor and helpless,” she says. “Please help.”

The woman said that her daughter was among her breadwinners. “My husband is old and stays at home. I look after him. My three daughters work,” she continued.

After the incident, she says she is afraid to send her two other daughters out to work.

She added that her daughter was too young to get married. “She is only 15.”

In Sindh, there have been cases where young girls have been abducted and married to older Muslim men and forced to convert. In other cases, they are lured with promises of money and marriage.

Efforts to formulate legislation against forced conversions - in Sindh and at the federal level - have resulted in roadblocks. The most vocal opposition has come from religious political parties, who say that the bill would be against Islam.
