Sharks on the streets of hurricane-hit Florida
After hurricane Ian made landfall in Florida, unleashing howling winds, torrential rains, and a treacherous surge of ocean surf social media users reported witnessing sharks on the streets.
A man, identifying as Barry, posted a still image taken from a car’s driving seat on a street. It showed a shark visible in the water next to the car.
Barry also claimed that “an Orca was just spotted swimming in downtown Miami.”
“Unreal,” he added and posted a picture of the killer whale on a street.
Another person published a video showing what looked like a shark struggling in shallow waters on a street.
The “video was captured by Ed Bell in Devonwood. A community in South Fort Myers just west of Route 41,” said the social media user.
Angeli Gabriel, who said in her Twitter bio that she was a Fox News producer, quickly sought permission to use the footage for various Fox News channels.
However, people soon realized that these images and videos were not real or at least not related to Hurricane Ian.
The video was created in June 2010, said one Twitter user.

But people were not angry. Josh responded to Barry by endorsing his claims and sharing an image that showed sharks in a mall.
“Hey Barry my buddy sent me this from the mall he works in. His bitcoin store is upstairs and he’s stranded up there while sharks have taken over the food court,” said Josh.
