Cop who threatened Lahore’s Dolphin Squad while drunk let off the hook

Lytton Road police station officials suspended for letting drunk cop leave without medical, inquiry

LAHORE: A drunk off-duty cop, who pointed his gun at members of an elite police squad after being stopped in the middle of the night, was let off without facing any consequences for his actions.

Sub Inspector Atif Nazir of the Lytton Road police station was stopped near the Qurtaba Chowk in the early hours of Wednesday by a team of Dolphin Squad.

According to the complaint filed by members of the Dolphin Squad, the visibly drunk inspector started arguing that he shouldn’t be stopped as he is a cop. He took out his firearm and pointed it at the Dolphin Squad members,

The Dolphin Squad members - identified as Zohaib, Farhan, Faizan and Taqasur - took the drunk cop along with his official firearm to the Lytton Road police station. They handed him over to Assistant Sub-Inspector Shafaqat Ali and the head diarist (moharar) Khurram Abbas.

“The ASI and head diarist allowed the drunk cop to leave/escape without a medical examination or any other action,” said the first information report (FIR).

Lytton Road police station SHO Sohail Ikhlaq told Aaj Digital that the two policemen have been suspended pending inquiry, while SI Nazir remains in the wind.

When asked why he hasn’t surrendered to the authorities, SHO Ikhlaq said that he is likely to after acquiring bail before arrest.
