A district and sessions court in Islamabad reserved on Monday the verdict on the petition seeking interim bail of PTI leader Shahbaz Gill in a sedition case filed against him. The verdict is expected at 11am Tuesday (tomorrow).

Additional District and Sessions Judge Zafar Iqbal heard the case, where Inspector Rashid appeared before the court along with the records pertaining to the sedition case against Gill.

During the hearing, Gill’s counsel said that the complainant - a city magistrate - has blamed the PTI leader of sedition and also nominated five other people in his statement to the police.

“Gill could never think of committing treason, rather the transcript of his statement was altered to misquote him,” he alleged and added that the PTI leader was reffering to Maryam Nawaz and Nawaz Sharif.

“The strategic media cell has been tasked to spread propaganda against PTI Chairman Imran Khan and his party,” his counsel alleged.

He said that the case had been filed after taking different points from the transcript, adding that no one has the right to alter his remarks to blame him for the treason.

“There is a misunderstanding somewhere in this entire statement,” Gill’s counsel said.

The prosecutor said that the words used by the suspect for bureaucracy had never been used by anyone before.

After conclusion of arguments, the court reserved the verdict and adjourned the hearing till Tuesday.

On August 9, Gill was arrested and was subsequently booked on charges of sedition and inciting members of state institutions against the Pakistan Army.

On August 25, Gill filed a bail petition in the sessions court Islamabad. He is currently in jail on judicial remand on charges of sedition and inciting mutiny in the army following his controversial remarks.

Gill in his bail plea stated that case against him was registered on a political basis and his remarks were distorted and taken in the wrong context.
