Iconic singer Nayyara Noor, also known as Bulbul-e-Pakistan, passed away on Saturday night in Karachi after a brief illness, her family and friends said. She was 71.

Funeral prayers will be offered at 4pm in Karachi’s Defence area on Sunday (today), Aaj News reported.

Nayyara’s national songs were the most popular. ’Is paracham key saye tale hum ek hain’ and ‘wataatn ki mitti gawah rehna’ are some of her most popular songs.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described her death as an “irreparable loss” to the world of music.

“The void created by her death will never be filled. May Allah grant the deceased a place in heaven,” he added.

Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said an era of Pakistani music ended with the death of Nayyara Noor.

“The melodious voice, unique singing style and excellent word choice are unforgettable,” she added.

Nayyara Noor sang many poetries of Faiz Ahmed Faiz and received many awards.

She was awarded the title of ‘Bulbul-e-Pakistan’ after receiving the Pride of Performance award.
