Pakistani mountaineer Naila Kiyani summitted Gasherbrum-I on Friday to become the first Pakistani woman to do so.

Kiyani has successfully scaled the world’s 11th highest peak Gasherbrum I, also known as the “Hidden Mountain”, located in Gilgit-Baltistan which is home to five out of a total of 14 mountains above 8,000 meters.

In her first attempt, she climbed three peaks above 8000 meters including Gasherbrum 1, Gasherbrum 2 and K2.

Kiyani managed to complete her expedition despite facing extreme weather conditions between C2 and C3 points.

She summited the world’s 13th highest mountain, Gasherbrum-II, in 2021 before ascending the world’s second tallest mountain, K2, last month.

“It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done in my life,” she said after summiting Gasherbrum I.

A Dubai-based banker by profession and mother of two, Kiyani is a trained boxer, mountaineer and adventurer.

She was also honored with an award by President Dr Arif Alvi in ​​December 2021 in recognition of her achievements in mountaineering.

Meanwhile, five other Pakistani climbers, Shehroze Kashif, Sirbaz Khan, Sajid Ali Sadpara, Imtiaz Sadpara, and Sohail Sakhi scaled the Gasherbrum-I on Friday.

A 20-year-old Pakistani, Shehroze Kashif, became the world’s youngest mountaineer on Friday to summit 10 peaks above 8,000 meters after he climbed Gasherbrum I, the 11th tallest mountain on earth.
