Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has challenged the decision of the Election Commission of Pakistan on the prohibited funding case in the Islamabad High Court.

PTI Additional Secretary General Omar Ayub filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court against the election commission’s decision regarding prohibited funding.

The election commission has been made a party in the petition on behalf of Tehreek-e-Insaf.

In the petition filed with the IHC, the petitioner asked the court to not only nullify the ECP’s August 2 ruling but also annul the election commission’s show-cause notice sent to PTI Chairperson Imran Khan.

The petitioner demanded that the ruling be declared “perverse, incorrect and in excess of authority and jurisdiction”.

Earlier this month, the election commission announced its reserved verdict saying that it found that the PTI received prohibited funding.

The case was earlier referred to as the “foreign funding” case, but later the election commission accepted the PTI’s plea to refer to it as the “prohibited funding” case.

The ECP verdict states that the PTI received funds from 34 individuals and 351 businesses, including companies.
