Textile artist Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, son of PPP’s Murtaza Ali Bhutto, is the latest to withdraw from a Goethe Institut-hosted film festival on their apparent racism against Palestinian poet Muhammad Ali Kurd.

The Goethe-Institut uninvited award-winning Palestinian poet, writer and human rights activist Mohammad El-Kurd from a roundtable titled “Selling Fascism? Remembering the Unsold” in June.

The roundtable was a part of a three-day conference “Beyond the Lone Offender – Dynamics of the Global Right” to be held in Hamburg, Germany, from June 23 to 26.

In retaliation, independent researcher and essayist Sinthujan Varatharajah and visual artist, research and curator Moshtari Hilal decided to call off their curatorial contribution to the conference.

Soon after British Pakistani writer and journalist, Mohammed Hanif announced on his Twitter that he too will not be participating in the three-day conference.

Bhutto took to his Instagram account to declare that he will be dropping out of a film festival, which he did not name because it had recently come to his attention that it was being hosted by the Goethe Institut.

“As a matter of solidarity with Palestinian people, I refuse to participate in any Goethe Institut events.”
