Severe tremors shook Islamabad and its environs on Wednesday, spreading panic among people as they rushed out of their houses. However, no casuality was reported.

According to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre Islamabad, the quake measured 4.5 on the Richter scale with its epicentre 130 km beneath the Koh-e-Hindukush.

There has been an uptick in seismic activity in and around Pakistan’s northern areas, including the tremors from a recent quake that had its epicentre in Afghanistan.

The 6.1 magnitude quake that struck Afghanistan last week left at least 1,000 people dead, with more than 600 injured and the toll is expected to increase further.

Tremors from the quake were felt in Pakistan and resulted in it at least one fatality in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province that borders Afghanistan.

On June 22, a 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the wee hours. Tremors were felt in Islamabad, Multan, Bhakkar, Phalia, Peshawar, Malakand, Swat, Mianwali, Pakpattan, and Buner, among other places.

On 23 June morning, a 4.3 magnitude earthquake jolted parts of Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Afghanistan. The epicentre of the earthquake was 58 km from Kalafgan in Afghanistan.

On June 2nd, an earthquake of magnitude 4.7 was reported near Islamabad on June 2nd afternoon. The epicentre of the earthquake was 198 km northwest (NW) of Islamabad. The earthquake struck at 4:35:17 PM IST at a depth of 75 km from the surface.
