Heavy rains and strong winds lashed parts of Karachi Wednesday, reducing the temperature in a major relief to the heat-stricken people as the city received its first pre-monsoon rain.

According to the reports downpours were recorded in several areas of the city with strong winds.

As soon as the rain started reports of traffic accidents also started coming from different parts of the metropolis.

Meanwhile, the Sindh Health Department has declared an emergency in all the hospitals in view of the rains and directed the administration to provide immediate medical aid to the injured in various accidents.

Earlier, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had predicted pre-monsoon rain in Karachi.

“There is no chance of urban flooding and the pre-monsoon season will continue till Wednesday,” Karachi weatherman Sardar Sarfaraz had told Aaj News.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), while releasing a breakdown of the rainfall received, said that Nazimabad received the highest rainfall with 38 millimetres.

It added that Jinnah Terminal received 22mm, Airport Old Area 15mm, PAF Base Faisal 8mm, Quaidabad 6mm, University Road 5.8mm, Gulshan-i-Maymar 4.3mm, Saadi Town 2.7mm, Orangi Town 2mm, PAF Base Masroor 2mm and Surjani Town received 1.7mm of rainfall.
