Punjab govt’s move of convening separate budget session undemocratic: Pervez Elahi
LAHORE: Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Pervez Elahi has said it was an undemocratic move on the government’s part to convene a separate budget session.
“Deputy speaker has no right to convene a meeting in the presence of the speaker,” Elahi said while talking to the media persons in Lahore on Wednesday.
The speaker added assembly was an institution the government wanted to weaken.
He said the government was offered to present the budget yesterday [Tuesday], adding that if a budget session was already going on then a separate session could not be convened.
He said that Punjab government convened the budget session under the secretary of law, adding that the meeting in Aiwan-e-Iqbal was unconstitutional and illegal.
Elahi said that the governor has violated the sanctity of the House.
