Karachi dairy farmers increase milk price by Rs. 20 per liter | Aaj Updates

Dairy wholesalers have increased the price of milk by Rs20.

The Karachi Commissioner had set the price at Rs120 per liter but it has risen to Rs170 per liter in the markets.

“They are raising the prices on their own,” said one customer.

Another added that he has reduced his buying from 1kg to half a kilo because he can’t afford it any more.

According to vendors, the price was increased because production costs had gone up. The price of animal feed and other commodities such as fertilizers and fuel were also higher.

“The rations are expensive, the cows are expensive, everything is expensive,” said one milk seller. “You media people see milk, you don’t see how oil is at Rs600? Can’t you see petrol is Rs210?” He scoffed at the role the commissioner played. “Where is he going to regulate us?”

Dairy Cattle Farmers Association president Shakir Gujjar claimed that farmers were not behind the latest increase in rates. “The association rejects the increase in prices by wholesalers and retailers,” he said.

Earlier on, the price of pasteurized milk went as high as Rs195 a liter in Pakistan.
