Karachi: The cooling process at Chase department store will be completed today.

The department store that caught fire after a spark in the basement on Wednesday is situated near Jail Chowrangi in the city.

While talking to Aaj News, Municipal Services Senior Director Mazhar Khan said the fire was extinguished on the same day when it started, however, cooling process in the basement will be completed on Saturday.

“The fire kept burning in the basement as it was full of flammable products, which made it difficult for the firefighters to control it,” he added.

“Around 18 fire brigades from all over Karachi were used to tame the fire.”

Many water bowsers were also used to refill the empty tanks of fire brigades so that they did not have to leave the site.

“Many snorkels were also used to control the inferno.”

While talking about the firefighters involved in the process, he said more than 200 of them have worked straight for four days and three nights to tame the fire.

“We can’t give the exact figure of how many water tankers were used in the process,” he said. “But a massive amount of water was used to put off the blaze as the basement is currently completely immersed in water.”
