Teenager gang-raped inside Mercedes in India’s Hyderabad
The son of an Indian lawmaker is one of five high school students who gang-raped a 17-year-old girl inside a Mercedes in an upscale area of Indian Hyderabad, Indian media reported on Friday.
According to local police, the accused are high school students and belong to ‘politically influential’ families. The son of a member of legislative assmebly (MLA) is believed to be involved. However, the police say he might have fled the vehicle before the incident took place.
Last Saturday, the 17-year-old girl had gone to a pub with a friend, who left early. The teen reportedly befriended a boy and left the club with him and his friends when they told her they would drop her home.
The group went to a pastry shop before the assault, according to the police.
The group of five allegedly took turns raping the girl while the rest kept close guard outside the car, which was parked at Jubilee Hills, an upscale part of town.
The girl on being asked about bruises on her neck, reportedly told her father she had been attacked by some boys after the party.
The police initially registered a case of “outraging modesty” based on the complaint of the girl’s father. Later, when she gave a detailed statement, a rape case was filed.
The girl was sent to women officers where she revealed the extent of what had happened. The girl could not reveal any details about the accused as she knew the name of only one of her attackers.
“At about 5.30 pm, she left the pub with a few guys in a car. Later, they misbehaved with my daughter and assaulted her. She has minor injuries on her neck. Since then, my daughter has been in deep shock and has been unable to disclose what happened exactly,” read the complaint.
The police and authorities are investigating the case based on CCTV footage. The suspects still have not been found.
The police are also investigating how the club gave access to minors.
