KARACHI: The Sindh government removed Inspector General Police Mushtaq Mahar from his post as the chief minister was not comfortable with his appointment. The charge was temporarily handed over to Additional IG Kamran Fazal.

Mahar, who was considered close to the establishment, was asked to report to the Establishment Division after the Services and General Administration Department issued the notice of his removal.

Three to four names were being considered for the slot as Fazal was due to retire within three to four months.

In January 2020, Mahar replaced inspector general Kaleem Imam after a meeting between former prime minister Imran Khan and Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.
