PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz urged the Islamabad High Court to take notice of the National Accountability Bureau’s prosecutorial methods after its prosecutor failed to show up for the hearing of her appeal against conviction in the Avenfield reference.

She was talking to media after the hearing in the IHC on Thursday.

“NAB changes its prosecutor at every hearing,” she said. “They haven’t provided any evidence in the last ten months.”

In the latest recusal, NAB prosecutor Imtiaz Siddiqui decline to represent the bureau in the case, reported The News.

She requested the IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah to preserve her rights as a basic Pakistani citizen as her honour was at stake for continuously visiting the court.

“The NAB has failed to submit any evidence against me in the court during the last 10 months,” she said, urging the court to quash the case against her if the accountability bureau had no evidence. “Or the court should convict me, if the NAB has proof against me.”

‘PTI’s performance’

Imran Khan did not have “four seconds to talk about the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led government’s four-year performance”, Maryam said.

“A conspiracy and letter is needed if you do not have any performance to talk about,” she said, referring to the ex-prime minister’s allegations of US conspiracy of regime change in the country and the threatening letter allegedly sent by the US envoy.

Conspiracy against Pakistan and inflation

She alleged Khan for conspiring against the country and said: “All the countries of the world together could do such kind of conspiracy against Pakistan which the ex-premier had done.”

“What could be said of Khan, if not dangerous as he has snatched every basic necessity from the common person, including food items and employment, as well as spoiled relations of Pakistan with the neighbouring friendly countries,” said the PML-N leader.

“Khan has destructed the economy in the four years and asking about the inflation from the interim government who had taken charge of the office for less than four weeks,” she added.

General election

Maryam said the interim government has taken the reigns of the country for a short period of time and it can not take big decisions which had been taken in the previous PML-N government in 2013-2018 period.

She urged the nation to elect Nawaz Sharif by two-third majority in the next election so that the PML-N could take long-term decisions for the stability of the country.

Army’s role in politics

The PML-N leader said the struggle of all political parties had always been for an apolitical role of the institutions. It is a praise worthy decision that the institutions are now apolitical, she said, adding the country’s institutions were supporting ex-premier till his ouster from the office.

“Pak Army head is a respectable person. He should be the person whose reputation is flawless. This will be good for the nation and the institution,” she said, referring to the next Army chief appointment.
