Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai finally got to attend her pandemic delayed graduation ceremony at Oxford University on Friday.

The philosophy, politics and economics graduate posted a series of photos from the big day on her Twitter.

“Some Latin was said and apparently I have a degree,” wrote the 24 years old activist on Twitter.

Malala was accompanied to the ceremony by her parents, Ziauddin Yousafzai and Toor Pekai Yousafzai, and her new husband Asser Malik. Clad in a black and white oufit with a cap and gown, Malala posed for pictures at the England campus with her friends and family.

Malik also celebrated his wife’s accomplishments with a post on social media. Finally revealing a tad-bit of information about their first meeting, he said, “The place we first met felt a little more special on Malala’s graduation day.”

Malala’s father also took to Twitter to share the news with the world. “A moment of joy and gratitude,” he said.

Malala’s graduation ceremony was initially planned for 2020 but was postponed because of the pandemic. She had shared photos of a small celebration at home in June, 2020, where she expressed gratitude for having the opportunity to get a degree from Oxford.

As soon as photos of the commencement ceremony circulated on social media, heartfelt messages of love and support started pouring in for the graduate on Twitter.

Journalist Mubashir Zaidi congratulated Malala’s father and said that his daughter has “made the whole nation proud.”

Dr. Makena Anne, who is a co-director of Africa Oxford Initiative expressed her delight on officiating Malala’s graduation.

One user thanked Malala for fighting for education and leading by example.

Human rights activist Kashif N Chaudhry also congratulated the graduate and said, “Let this serve as a message for the extremists who want to snatch books from girls.”

This user’s happy that Malala’s setting new standards for women.

The Oxford degree marks the second one that Malala has received, the first one being an honorary Masters of Arts degree from the University of Edinburgh that she got in 2013.
