Bollywood actor Sara Ali Khan has been slammed for her visit to Kedarnath Temple in Uttarkhand on Tuesday.

She visited the temple with fellow actor and close friend Jhanvi Kapoor, daughter of the late Sri Devi and producer Boney Kapoor.

Photographs of them offering prayers at the temple went viral but Khan seemed to attract a lot of ire for visiting the temple and they questioned her Muslim identity.

Khan, whose parents are Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh, has been known to celebrate both parents' religious festivals.

Many people used abusive language under her post, saying things like it was wrong for her to visit the temple and questioning her Muslim faith.

Many took to Twitter to comment on what they saw was double standards.

Some made links to the abuse faced by Indian cricketer Mohammad Shami following the team's loss to Pakistan in the T20 match.

Others called out people for not calling out the abuse Khan faced by Muslims.

But many also posted comments asking people to be more tolerant.
