Today, the federal minister for planning Asad Umar disclosed that more than five million people have been vaccinated against novel coronavirus infection in Pakistan so far.

The PTI lawmaker who also heads the National Command and Operations Center (NCOC) took to his official Twitter handle notifying the public regarding the number of people who have received their COVID jabs. He tweeted:

Praise be to God, more than 5 million people have been vaccinated till yesterday.

Encouraging the public to get themselves registered for vaccination at the earliest, he further wrote:

You too should register early and get vaccinated so that we can further reduce the restrictions and speed up Pakistan's development journey. And you can live your life freely without fear of corona.

Earlier today, Umar also announced that from tomorrow (i.e. 29th May), people aged 30 and above and teachers aged 18 and above will be able to get their vaccines by just walking in the vaccine centers.

Of late, Pakistan has been reporting a significant decrease in daily cases which shows that the country has been able to contain the spread of the deadly flu bug to some extent. This has been made possible by strict lockdown measures and vaccination drives.

The good news is that the government is amping up its vaccination capacity every week. PM Khan and his team must be commended for the fact that they had been able to amass an adequate number of vaccines from all over the world as they opened the phase-wise registration for its citizens based on the age of individuals.

As per the daily updates provided by the NCOC regarding the coronavirus vaccine administered in the country, in the last 24 hours 284,975 vaccines were administered. This takes the total vaccine tally to 6,709,848.
