How to face your fears with courage?
Fear is a physical state of mental representation of our failed experiences, overtly, or covertly. We might have had a bad experience that resulted in that fear or we may have made up our mind by assuming that the experience will be an awful one. In both scenarios, the fear is real and is quite distressful.
In 1937, Napolean Hill, an American self-help author, identified six basic fears which are:
- Poverty
- Criticism
- Ill health
- Loss of love
- Old age
- Death
These are not the only causes, even the fear of public speaking can prove to be quite challenging for some people. Different people have different phobias. In any scenario, there are some ways of coping that can help you deal with your fears better. A few of these are as follows:
Concentrate on what you can control
It is necessary to not wonder about things that are out of your control. There are things that you can handle, that circles around you only, and then there are consequences over which you have no control. Make a rational guess over things you can influence and then go for it. Don't mind the consequences just do your part and leave the rest to fate.
Know your demons
It's possible that you might have heard of the term "introspection" from any psychologist. Therapists often encourage clients to go through scrutiny. Before jumping into a situation at hand, contemplate your pros and cons and keep a positive mindset.
Imagine the alternative
Visualize the consequences of giving in to your fears. Imagine the toll of being ruled by fear; then think about the dividends of bravely accomplishing your ambitions. Weigh the two to see the gap between them, it will surely help you feel better about your fears.
