Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has been successful in conducting polio vaccination drive in all areas of South Waziristan for the very first time in history of the region.

This was shared by Taimur Khan Jhagra who is the current Provincial Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for Finance and Health via social networking site Twitter. This was the first time ever that there were no no-go areas in the region and polio workers could vaccinate children below five years of age in South Waziristan.

Jhagra tweeted:

For the first time ever, the polio drive was conducted in every part of S. Waziristan. No no-go areas! Inspiring to see thousands of staff and tens of thousands of children being vaccinated across S. Waziristan, a district where access itself was a challenge only a few short years ago. This itself is testament to the efforts of the civil and military authorities there.

KP minister also said that it was made possible only because of the merging of poverty-stricken FATA and KP province. The significance of the FATA-KP merger is immense and the minister credited the PTI-led federal government and KP government for this.

He said:

There is also another story here; of the benefits of the merger of tribal districts with Pakhtunkhwa. The mainstreaming has created ownership of the tribal districts like never before. The merger is priority number 1 for the KP govt, and that makes progress possible. The priority given to tribal districts such as South Waziristan can be seen by actions. The CM chaired a comprehensive review of development in the district earlier this week, and the polio campaign was overseen on the ground by the Chief Secretary.
