The World Health Organization chief has warned that the Lifting of coronavirus lockdown too early could spark a "deadly resurgence" in infections
Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, “I know that some countries are already planning the transition out of stay-at-home restrictions”, He further said that the countries should be vigilant while taking decision in this regard
He also clarified, “WHO wants to see restrictions lifted as much as anyone”.
The global health body “is working with affected countries on strategies for gradually and safely easing restrictions,” he added.
Globally, nearly 1.5 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 have now been reported to WHO, and more than 92,000 deaths.
In the past week, some hardest-hit countries in Europe, like Spain, Italy, Germany and France saw “welcome slowing” in the case.
The WHO statement about restrictions comes as Spain, the worst-hit country, is planning to allow the non-essential workers to resume their jobs.
Dr Tedros also warned that WHO has seen an alarming acceleration in other countries.
“I want to take a moment to highlight Africa, where we are seeing the spread of the virus to rural areas. We are now seeing clusters of cases and community spread in more than 16 countries,” he said.
