LAHORE: Opposing Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) president Shehbaz Sharif’s opinion, the party’s vice president Maryam Nawaz has termed ‘charter of economy’ as ‘mockery of economy’.

Addressing a press conference in Lahore, Maryam Nawaz maintained offering charter of economy to Imran Khan is like giving him an NRO as he, due to his incompetence, caused irreparable damage to the economy and now wants opposition to become a part of his failure on economic front.

Maryam Nawaz said Shehbaz Sharif has his own point of view in this regard and everyone knows that Shehbaz’s thinking is different.

She said party follows democratic norms and final decision is made on the approval of Nawaz Sharif. She said Shehbaz Sharife would lead the All Parties Conference (APC) of opposition, adding that party would decide whether she should attend APC or not.

Maryam said she never criticized Army as an institution, adding that ISI and MI should not be dragged into politics.

Maryam Nawaz said no politician should appear before the inquiry commission made by PM Imran Khan, adding that she would bring a future plan in front of public soon. She said Bilawal has his own agenda while we have our own. She added that national institutions must keep themselves away from political matters.

Maryam Nawaz said neither she was asking for a relief to this incompetent government nor they can because they themselves are dependent for relief. She said charter of economy is anonymous to mockery of economy.

She also informed media about the updated health status of her father. “I want to put the case of Nawaz Sharif’s [deteriorating] health in front of the general public…I want to apprise people about Nawaz Sharif’s health,” she said.

She stated that her father has been suffering from heart disease for the last 15 years, and he suffered third heart attack in the Adiala Jail. “I wasn’t informed about it and when his health further deteriorated, I was called in the office of superintendent where some cardiologists were present,” she added.

She said Sharif had refused to go to a hospital and thereafter his personal doctor was called from Lahore in emergency. “Mian Sahab said he couldn’t go to a hospital by leaving Maryam alone,” she said, adding that she wasn’t aware about what treatment was provided to him.

“His personal physician was also not told anything, despite his request,” she went on to say, and that even his discharge certificate wasn’t issued to anyone.

She further said her father, upon his return to the jail, was given medicines and facility of doctors; however one of his arteries is 90 percent blocked. “Nawaz Sharif has already underwent three heart surgeries, and his first bypass was performed during his prime ministership,” she added.

Moreover, she stated that her father has been suffering from a third-grade kidney disease, and seven stents have been emplaced in his arteries and there is no room for more.

Furthermore, she added that he was being restricted to meet [his family members and party leaders], and that his treatment was possible within the country but doctors were being pressurised.

“No [case of] corruption has been proved against Nawaz Sharif,” she said, while referring to Prime Minister Imran Khan as ‘incompetent’ who she said has failed and her father succeeded. “People still fear Nawaz Sharif, and the incompetent premier needed to think about that he has lost.”

“This guy (Imran Khan) not only stole a whole election but is now ruining the economy due to his incompetence so he wants opposition’s stamp on his failing economic policies that we should never provide him, he (Imran Khan) should be made an example,” said Maryam Nawaz.

The vice-president of the PML-N further stated that Sharif had said he was being punished for talking about the rule of the Law, and that he has been bearing it for the sake of the people. “Several months or even years can even be required for Mian Sahab’s rehabilitation,” she added.

Maryam said this is not Egypt and we would not let Nawaz Sharif to live life of Muhammad Morsi.

Earlier this week, PML-N president and Opposition leader in NA Shehbaz Sharif, during his budget speech, had offered a “charter of economy” to the PTI government in the “larger national interest”. —NNI
