Burka Avenger bags another national award

ISLAMABAD: Critically acclaimed and multi-award winning animated TV series Burka Avenger was awarded the Art & Design Award at the 3 rd edition of the National Innovation Awards, 2017.

The winners were announced at the award ceremony at Marriott, Karachi.

The National Innovation Awards, the country’s only awards for Innovation are awarded each year to recognize innovation and innovators across a range of different sectors. The nominations are scored on a range of criteria including innovation of the idea, execution, impact and long term sustainability.

Burka Avenger is a Unicorn Black production and their production studio is located in Islamabad, Pakistan.

Speaking about the award, Series Creator, Director and Producer Haroon said: “It is an incredible honor to receive this award and it is a great effort by the Pakistan Innovation Foundation to encourage innovation in the country. Burka Avenger is a 100% made Pakistani product and it only became possible due to the hard work of the incredible team at Unicorn Black.”

Unicorn Black has recently launched a new animated series last month Teetoo and Tania which aims to highlight and give homage to Pakistani heroes and role models. The series also projects a positive image of Pakistan to the world. The series airs every Thursday at 6:10 pm on PTV and episodes are also available online on Facebook and YouTube.

Other prominent heroes featured in the series include Aitzaz Hasan (the boy who sacrificed his life to prevent a suicide bombing), Dr Ruth Pfau who helped rid Pakistan of leprosy, Muniba Mazari, Mushtaq Chappra (Funder of TCF) and many others.

Burka Avenger has received multiple national international awards including the prestigious Peabody Award. Some of the Major Awards and Accolades won by the series include:

Burka Avenger animated TV series has been launched in multiple countries and has been dubbed in more than 10 languages. According to an independent survey, more than 85% children in urban areas of Afghanistan watch Burka Avenger.

The series was also launched in Indonesia this year and within the first week of its release, became the nationwide slot leader as well as among the top 5 most viewed TV shows in the country.

On occasion of 70 th Independence Day of Pakistan, a Burka Avenger episodes is being dubbed in Romanian by the Embassy of Pakistan in Bucharest for screening at the Pakistan Film Festival in Eastern Europe and Romania.

The series is also scheduled for launch in Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Bangladesh and Brunei.—PR
