Karachi: All motorcycles to be installed with tracking device

KARACHI: All newly manufactured motorcycles as well as those already in use across Karachi will necessarily be installed with tracking device by early next year.

This was agreed during a meeting chaired by Sindh Home Minister, Sohail Anwar Khan Sial here on Wednesday to review the pace of work, aimed at ensuring security of the lives as well as belongings of the local motorcyclists.

The meeting also attended by representatives of motorcycle manufacturers association, tracking companies, provincial Police and

Excise department respectively, Pakistan Rangers - Sindh and Citizen - Police Liaison Committed reviewed the progress made in the exercise during past few months.

It was observed with satisfaction, that as per directives of the home minister, the objective was attempted to be accomplished through consensus among all concerned stakeholders.

Minister Anwar Khan Sial addressing the meeting said the tracking device was crucial to contain criminal elements as not only unassuming motorcyclists are easiest targets of the snatchers but the two wheel vehicle is also largely used in criminal activities.

"Elimination of criminals and their touts is among our top most priorities," said the home minister.

Representatives of tracking companies and the manufacturers of motorcycles assured the minister of their support in the effort.

In reply to a question by the minister, police officials present on the occasion said there existed no record of most of the chinchi rickshaws plying in the city.

The minister asked them to devise a policy for their registration and functioning with extreme care towards safety of the commuters.—APP
