Hijazi indicted in record tempering case

ISLAMABAD: A Special Court of Islamabad Friday indicted former chairman Security Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP)  Zafar Hijazi in a case regarding tempering of Chaudhry Sugar Mills record.

Special Judge Iram Niazi picked up the case against Zafar Hijazi for hearing, lodged by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in compliance of Supreme Court orders in Panama papers case. The former chairman SECP appeared before the court.

As the hearing began, Judge Iram Niazi read the charge sheet in presence of Zafar Hijazi. The charges stated that Hijazi tempered the sugar mill record in SECP and pressurized his subordinate for this purpose.

However, Zafar Hijazi denied all charges and decided to contest the case. He said that he had not been involved in such a practice and record tempering case against him should not be initiated.

On the other hand, the FIA prosecutor contended that Zafar Hijazi was involved in this malpractice.

He said the department has the evidence and witnesses against accused.

After hearing the arguments, the court asked the FIA to provided evidence and witnesses in support of its allegations against former chairman SECP, and adjourned hearing of the case.—APP
