ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court Tuesday adjourned Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) plea challenging jurisdiction of Election Commission of Pakistan which initiated contempt of court proceedings against PTI's chief Imran Khan, in foreign funding case.

A Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, adjourned the case till December 5 due to the non-availability of the PTI's counsel, Dr.Baar Awan however representatives of the other litigants were present before the court.

Imran Khan had challenged the August 10, show cause notice issued to him by the ECP under section 103A of the Representation of People Act 1976 and under 204 of the Constitution for contempt of court as he had not submitted records in connection with the party?s foreign funding, despite being ordered to do so.

The ECP had declared that it was within its jurisdiction to initiate contempt of court proceedings

In its short order, a full bench of the ECP, headed by Chief Election Commissioner retired Justice Sardar Mohammad Raza rejected Khan's objections to the commission?s jurisdiction to initiate contempt of court proceedings and ruled it had the legal right to hear the contempt case.—APP
