PM Abbasi concerned over street crimes in Karachi

KARACHI: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Saturday said the country cannot progress without strong economy and there is lot of room for boosting economy to lead the country on the road of progress and prosperity. 

He was talking to a representative delegation of Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Pakistan Business Council in Karachi today.

The prime minister called for efforts to ensure the promotion of economic activities in Karachi.

He said the government will continue to pursue the policies of former Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. Members of new cabinet are working hard to achieve the goals and objectives of PML(N).

Abbasi said that as a result of concerted efforts of the PML(N) government and sacrifices of security forces, law and order has been restored in Karachi.

During the meeting, Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal and Governor Sindh Muhammad Zubair were also present on the occasion.

Chairing a meeting on law and order in Karachi, the Prime Minister said the federal government is concerned over the recent surge in street crimes in Karachi.

The meeting was briefed on overall security situation in the province in general and Karachi in particular.

Abbasi stressed the need for activating all intelligence resources to arrest that alarming trend.

The meeting reaffirmed that peace and tranquility in Karachi would be maintained at all costs.

Sindh Governor Muhammad Zubair, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Federal Minister for Interior Ahsan Iqbal, Corps Commander Karachi, Chief Secretary Sindh, DG Rangers Sindh, IG Sindh and other senior government officials were present during the meeting.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah also called on Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in Karachi this afternoon.

They discussed the prevailing political situation in the province and relations between the Federal and provincial governments.

The Prime Minister reiterated his resolve that the federal government will continue to play its role in completion of the ongoing development projects in Sindh.

Earlier, talking to Governor Sindh Muhammad Zubair in Karachi, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said the federal government will extend all out support for development in Sindh province.

The Governor briefed the Prime Minister on the initiatives taken for the development and confidence of business community.

The Prime Minister also paid a visit to the mausoleum of Quaid-a-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

He laid floral wreath at the mausoleum and offered Fateha to pay homage and respect to father of the nation. He also recorded his impressions in the visitor's book.

A delegation of MQM Pakistan led by Farooq Sattar also called on Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in Karachi on Saturday.— Radio Pakistan
