The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday restored a plea seeking disqualification of Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan from the membership of Parliament over alleged collection of funds for his party through prohibited sources.
Advocate Sharaft Ali Chaudhry had filed a petition on behalf of Hashim Ali Bhutta of Lahore in the matter which the commission dismissed on January 16 due to non-prosecution.
However, filing an application for restoration of the petition, Sharaft Ali Chaudhry contended before a five-member bench led by Chief Election Commissioner Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan that due to sudden demise of his aunt, the counsel was unable to appear before the commission.
Accepting his plea the five-member bench of Chief Election Commissioner Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan restored the petition and issued notices to Imran Khan for a reply by May 23.-Business Recorder
