This is apropos a Business Recorder news item "Sexist remark: Aseefa says Khurshid owes an apology" carried by the newspaper yesterday. According to it, sexist remarks by Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khurshid Shah in the Lower House of the Parliament drew sharp criticism from his own party as well as Aseefa Bhutto Zardari.

Some ruling party women lawmakers thumped their desk in response to witty but sexist remarks of Khurshid Shah. However, PPP member Nafisa Shah objected to the Speaker's warning, saying as to why only the women were being asked to stay silent in the house.

Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, however, has rightly reminded Khurshid Shah that his were no appropriate remarks. Although Khurshid Shah's remarks were neither intended to any specific female member in the house, nor did he try to ridicule the women legislators, such remarks do hurt the sentiments of women at large.

Meanwhile, the PPP leader Khurshid Shah must not forget that sexism or gender discrimination is prejudice or discrimination based on person's, particularly a woman's, sex or gender.
