Green line to be completed by December 2017: Governor Sindh
KARACHI: Governor Sindh Mohammad Zubair has said that federally funded Green Line project is a gift for the people of Karachi and that it would be completed by the end of this year which would ensure much improved transport facilities to the Karachiites.
This he said while talking with mediamen after briefing on Green line at Board Office Chowrangi here on Friday. Senator Nihal Hashmi was also present on the occasion.
The Governor stated that improper planning led to various problems including severe traffic issues in Karachi. Green line project is aimed at providing rapid, quick and hassle free travelling facilities to commuters, he added.
Zubair said that this project would not only improve traffic flow on city roads but would also help in reducing air pollution besides enhancing economic and social activities.
Mohammad Sualeh Ahmed Faruqui, head of Karachi Infrastructure Development Company Limited, briefed Governor Sindh about various phases of the project.
He said that construction work on different phases was on schedule and around 80% work on first three phases has been completed.
The work on fourth and fifth phase has also started, which include the extension made in the project, he said.
Governor Sindh while lauding the pace and quality of work said the he would request Prime Minister to inaugurate Board Office interchange, expected to be operational at the end of April.
Prime Minister was attaching top priority to the improvement of infrastructure of basic amenities in the Province and he has visited Sindh six times during last 50 days, he added and said that Prime Minister is very passionate about accelerated development of the Province in every field.
He said that PM has announced Metro Bus Service for Hyderabad in his last visit and its feasibility report is in the process. He is also focusing on infrastructure development of health, education and other fields in the Province, Governor Sindh added.
Zubair further said Government is focusing on development of the private sector, due to favourable policies by Government, private sector is expected to produce over 50,000 jobs in various fields which would lower unemployment, he added.
He said on completion of green line, K-IV, Liyari Expressway, Karachi to Hyderabad Motorway and other projects masses will get better facilities of transportation and other basic needs of life which will also improve their living standards.
Zubair said that people of Sindh Province also desire modern and standard means of transport facilities on the pattern of Lahore and Rawalpindi. People are being forced to travel on the bus roof due to lack availability of sufficient transportation.
He said after peace and stability especially in Sindh Province Government is completely focused on public welfare tasks so that people get benefits of peace and security established by the Karachi operation.
Federal government has been providing every possible assistance to the people of this city by initiating quality transport projects and supply of drinking water.
On completion of ongoing projects with the collaboration of Federal and Provincial Governments Karachiites would soon feel the impact of the same, he added.-APP
