Zubair chairs first meeting of committee formed by PM

KARACHI: Sindh Governor Mohammad Zubair on Monday chaired the first meeting of the committee formed by Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif to review overall economic situation in the country and recommend steps for its improvement.

According to a Governor House statement here, the committee was constituted by the prime minister during his meeting with the business community on March 14.

The committee has been assigned the task of recommending tax reforms, urban infrastructure development and capital market reforms, and most significantly suggesting measures for enhancing job opportunities in the country.

The committee also constituted three sub-committees to work on above sectors and finalize their recommendations by March 31.

Addressing the meeting, the Governor said the involvement of business community in further improving the country's economy was of paramount importance and that was why the prime minister formed the committee to seek suggestions from them.

He said the proposals finalized by the committee would further strengthen the economy as businessmen and industrialists knew the problems from grassroots level.

The committee members thanked the prime minister for reposing trust in them and pledged to work with the utmost devotion for making the economy of the country more stable and stronger.

Arif Habib representing PSE, Zubair Tufail (FPCCI), Bashir Ali Mohammad (APTMA), Ahsan Malik (Pakistan Business Council), Khalid Mansoor (Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industries) and Shamim Ahmed representing KCCI attended the meeting.-APP
